Need A Privacy Fence? Know Some Ways To Customize It

Are you getting a privacy fence installed around your yard, but you're worried about how the solid structure is going to look? If so, it will help to know some ways that you can customize the solid panel fence.

Shadow Box

Instead of using solid panels for privacy, you can opt for a shadow box fence instead. What makes this fence different is the overlapping panels that allow natural light to pass through. People will be able to look through the fence at an angle, but it will still make it difficult to see into the yard. This is a great choice for when you share a fence with a neighbor since they won't be looking at the rear side of the fence after it is installed.

Scalloped Top

Another option is to use a privacy fence with a scalloped top. Rather than having the top of the fence be flat between the fence posts, the top dips down and creates an arch that makes the fence look more friendly. You can create the scalloped top so that it goes down as low as you want, which will provide some privacy but be more friendly to your neighbors so that you are not completely cut off from the outside world while in your backyard.

Traditional Arched Top

The opposite of a scalloped traditional fence is a traditional arched top. The curve will go upward rather than downward, which has a similar look but with a different purpose. It will make it harder for neighbors to see over the fence and give the solid structure a bit of style.

Dog Ears

A wood fence will have several planks of wood that are close together to provide privacy. However, you can round off the corners of each plank so that they create styles known as dog ears. The slight rounding is going to be enough to make your privacy fence stand out in a good way and avoid that flat top.

Lattice Top

A lattice top can be added to any solid-style fence, which only adds a few extra inches on top of the material with a woven wood material. Many people like using the lattice top to weave plants through the material and add some color to their fence.

Lattice Panels

You do not need to make the entire privacy fence with solid panels. You can also alternate with some panels that are made with lattice material. Cover them with the same plants that will be woven through the material, and you will have some unique parts of the privacy fence that stand out.
